Dragonfly is moderating a panel discussion at the Cultivating Creative Communities: Arts, Education and Spaces for Successful 21st Century Learning conference in Calgary, focusing on how arts education can factor in Aboriginal community development (urban, reserve, rural, remote). Listen as expert panelists – including educators, community-based service providers, and artists from a variety of disciplines – consider the shifting terrain of “community,” contemporary issues in Aboriginal communities, and how arts education might be a force for individual and community transformation. The panel will include interactive elements and exercises for delegates to engage with the session theme and content.
The annual ArtsSmarts Knowledge Exchange is a dynamic and interactive two-day conference that offers a learning space for 250+ individuals and organizations to share information on and learn about creativity, discovery, and innovation in learning. The 2012 Knowledge Exchange will bring together four keynote presentations and 12 interactive panel/workshop sessions to explore interdisciplinary connections between the arts and K-12 education in both theory and practice. This year’s Knowledge Exchange will be followed by a one-day youth-led symposium where 35 youth who are engaged with their communities through leadership, volunteering, and youth advocacy will exchange information, explore fundamental issues of youth engagement, and create strategies to increase youth engagement and activism.
